Watonwan County Release Records
A release is a change in custody, but it is not always a return to the community. Someone may leave the Watonwan County Jail after posting bond, completing a local sentence, receiving a court order, or entering pretrial monitoring. The same person may instead be transferred to another county, committed to the Minnesota Department of Corrections, or moved to a federal or other holding authority. Each path creates a different record trail.
The official Watonwan Internet Jail Roster is a current-custody snapshot. It shows who is listed when the PDF is generated. Its observed columns include booking facts and a projected date, but no actual release date or release type. When a name drops off, the narrow fact is that the person is no longer on that snapshot. The jail's existing release or movement record is the best county source for what happened next.
- Release
- A physical departure from one custodian, either to the community or to another authority.
- Transfer
- A move between custodians, not a community release.
- Discharge
- The end of correctional jurisdiction or supervision, which may occur after physical release.
- Time served
- A sentence outcome that credits time already spent in custody.
Watonwan County Release Paths
The next search depends on the reason the Watonwan County custody entry ended. A listed bail amount shows one possible route, not proof that bond was paid. A projected date is also prospective. The actual jail record and court action must be read together when the distinction matters.
| Path | What it means | Best next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or court order | The person leaves jail while the case may remain open. | Jail release record, Minnesota VINE, and court case |
| Sentence completion | The local confinement term ends. | Actual release record and sentencing documents |
| Probation or pretrial monitoring | The person is outside jail but must meet court conditions. | Watonwan County Probation and court file |
| State commitment | Custody moves from the county jail into Minnesota DOC jurisdiction. | Movement record and Minnesota DOC search |
| Other transfer | Another jail, federal authority, medical site, or custodian receives the person. | Movement record and named receiving agency |
Note: A transfer ends the Watonwan roster row without establishing that the person returned to the community.
Watonwan Release Record Fields
A precise request asks for existing records tied to one booking and date range. It does not ask the sheriff to investigate or create a new report. The Watonwan Sheriff records policy permits restricted material to be removed while separable public data are supplied. Asking for a custody history or movement record helps distinguish a community exit from a transfer.
| Field or record | What it can show |
|---|---|
| Booking or custody identifier | Links the response to the correct jail episode. |
| Admission date and time | Marks the start of the custody event. |
| Actual release date and time | Records the physical exit when maintained and public. |
| Release authority or disposition | Identifies the legal or coded basis for release, if public. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Distinguishes a transfer from community release. |
| Charges and Held For agency | Supplies agency and case context, not final disposition. |
| Booking photograph | Connects an official identification image to the booking. |
Charges are not convictions. A bail figure does not show that payment occurred. The Watonwan roster's Projected Release column is not an actual exit field. Those limits are why the requested fields should include actual release or movement data, the booking identifier, and any receiving agency.
Request Watonwan Release Records
The Watonwan County data-practices hub links the official form and sheriff policy. The form lets a requester choose inspection, copies, or both. Inspection is free. Copy production can carry a cost, and the county may require prepayment. The local form states that the county will respond within ten business days, excluding holidays.
The captured county page is the official starting point for the Watonwan release-record form and policy, so it supports a request without turning the live roster into an archive.
- Identify the person, approximate booking dates, and case number if known.
- Ask for existing booking, custody-history, movement, and release records for that episode.
- List the needed fields, including actual exit time and receiving agency if maintained and public.
- Select inspection, copies, or both on the county data request form.
- Ask for the existing electronic format when that format is reasonably available.
- If material is withheld, request separable public data and the legal authority for each denial.

Minnesota Statutes § 13.03 caps one hundred or fewer black-and-white letter or legal pages at twenty-five cents per page. Other formats and larger responses may involve actual costs. The county policy separately lists data-subject charges in its own context. Exact costs should come from the office before copies are made.
Watonwan Release Data Law
Minnesota Statutes § 13.03 begins with public access to government data unless another law classifies it otherwise. It provides free inspection, copies on request, reasonable access, segregation of public data from protected data, and a specific legal basis for a denial. Corrections and detention data have added classification rules. Juvenile, victim, medical, security, sealed, expunged, and active-investigation information may be limited.
A public release record may contain redactions. A redaction does not turn the remaining public fields into private data.
Expungement seals covered court and agency records from public view. It does not mean the event never occurred, and authorized agencies may retain access. A missing court result may also stem from spelling, access rules, or coverage. When the exact jail exit matters, use the jail record rather than treating a search miss as proof.
Correct Watonwan Release Data
Watonwan County's data-practices policy gives a data subject a way to challenge government data about them as inaccurate or incomplete. That route can matter when a county-held release date, identity, or disposition is wrong. The responsible authority reviews the challenge, and the policy provides an appeal path from the determination.
First obtain the existing record and identify the exact field at issue. Supply the reliable document that supports the correction, such as the relevant court order or release record. Keep county jail data, court data, and Minnesota DOC data separate because each office controls its own system. A correction made by one agency does not automatically rewrite another agency's record.
Note: Ask the agency that maintains the disputed field to use its own official correction or challenge process.
Watonwan Bond Release Handoff
Bond release may be followed at once by a local reporting duty. Watonwan County Probation conducts bail evaluations and handles pretrial supervision. Its county page says a defendant ordered to pretrial monitoring must report immediately in person for intake at the courthouse basement. Leaving the jail roster therefore does not mean the criminal case or all restrictions have ended.
The court's Register of Actions can show the bail order, conditions, later hearings, warrants, and disposition. Probation can verify defined public supervision facts within Minnesota's data rules. The jail release record supplies the physical exit. These records answer related but different questions, so they should be matched by person, case, and date.
Travel After Watonwan Release
Watonwan County operates Take Me There Public Transportation, with demand-response and scheduled service in St. James and elsewhere in the county. Some routes connect with Fairmont or Mankato. The service does not promise an immediate jail pickup, so a released person or family should call 507-375-7385 before relying on it.
Ask about reservations, service hours, route, pickup location, and whether the needed trip can be served. The jail page does not publish an ordinary release-processing time or exact public exit point. Transportation plans should stay flexible until the jail confirms that processing is complete and the person knows where pickup is allowed.
Find Watonwan Released Inmates
Begin with the custody episode, not with a broad name search. Gather the full name, date of birth if lawfully known, approximate booking or release dates, case number, and the agency thought to have held the person. The Watonwan roster's Held For field may identify an agency while a row is active. After the row is removed, the movement record is stronger.
- Open the official current roster and record its Printed on timestamp.
- If the person is listed, read booking date, charges, Held For, bail, and Projected Release together.
- If absent, call the jail and request the existing Watonwan release and movement record.
- Search Minnesota VINE for the county-jail event and match facility and booking details.
- Read the Watonwan court case for bail, release, disposition, sentence, warrant, and supervision actions.
- Use Minnesota DOC, BOP, or ICE only when a commitment or movement record points to that system.
A released person normally leaves the live jail roster. Absence alone does not reveal release time, reason, or destination.
The Watonwan County 24-hour release list page explains why the county's current PDF cannot be relabeled as a same-day feed. For a named person, the record chain above is more reliable than comparing old snapshots.
Watonwan VINE Release Checks
Watonwan County links directly to Minnesota VINE. Search by name or identification number, then match the facility, identifier, and booking details. VINE can provide county-jail custody status, facility, booking information, and scheduled-release information when available. Its notifications distinguish events such as general release, court-order release, bond release, transfer, escape, record purge, and unsupervised custody.
Keep the exact event wording. A transfer is not an ordinary community release, and a purged record is not a certified exit record. Minnesota materials say county facilities typically send updates every fifteen or thirty minutes, which supports timely notice but does not replace the jail's legal record. State-prison notifications use Minnesota Haven through DOC, not county-jail VINE.
Watonwan Court Release Records
Minnesota Court Records Online preserves case actions that may remain visible after the jail row ends. Search the person and narrow to the Watonwan criminal case. Review bail and release orders, warrants, plea and disposition, sentencing, amended sentence, probation, revocation, and discharge entries. Available public filed documents can add context to the Register of Actions.
Watonwan Court Administration processes matters through disposition and stores the final action for retrieval. Older or unavailable documents may require the Watonwan County District Court. A court order explains legal authority, while the jail record establishes exact physical departure. One should not be used as a substitute for the other.
Question: Does a time-served order prove the exit time? No. It may explain why release was authorized, but the jail's release data are closer to the actual physical exit.
Note: Sealing, expungement, restricted access, and older-file coverage can all affect whether a court search returns a result.
Minnesota DOC Release Search
The Minnesota DOC search landing page defines the locator's scope. It covers people committed to the Commissioner of Corrections who remain under DOC jurisdiction, whether confined or physically released from prison while still supervised. It does not cover an ordinary Watonwan jail stay with no state commitment, and it is not a complete archive after full discharge.
The official COMS Public Viewer provides the Minnesota DOC search interface used for that limited population.
The captured search form belongs to the state correctional system. It should be used only when a Watonwan case led to state commitment, not as a substitute for county-jail release data.
The viewer should be read as it appears. The research did not confirm a universal historic Released or Discharged result label. Match the offered name or identifier fields, open the current record, and distinguish prison custody from supervised release. If the person has left DOC jurisdiction or the viewer does not supply a durable answer, ask DOC Records Management for existing admission, facility release, supervision, revocation, and discharge records.
| Question | Correct source | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Still in Watonwan jail? | Current county roster and jail | Snapshot, not release history |
| Left Watonwan custody? | County release or movement record | Restricted fields may be redacted |
| Released from state prison but supervised? | Minnesota DOC locator | Only while DOC jurisdiction continues |
| Fully discharged from DOC? | DOC records and court file | May no longer appear in public viewer |
Watonwan Release Supervision Lookup
Watonwan County Probation handles adult probation, pretrial monitoring, and Minnesota DOC releasees assigned locally. It does not publish a name-search tool. Minnesota Statutes § 13.84 makes defined adult supervision facts public, including the fact and place of supervision, offense, start and end dates, conditions, supervising agency or unit, and certain change or revocation facts. Other case-service details may remain private.
Ask the office for a specific public fact and identify the person carefully. Probation follows a court order. Supervised release follows the prison portion of a state sentence. Parole review applies only to limited statutory classes. Watonwan County Probation is the local verification route, while the court and Minnesota DOC remain the sources for their own records.
Watonwan Federal Release Checks
No federal or ICE detention facility was confirmed in Watonwan County. Federal tools are conditional paths, not default substitutes for the county roster. A county movement record, federal case, or known federal arrest should supply the reason to change systems. The Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward and may show a release date plus Released or Not in BOP Custody.
BOP warns that a person may be in another system or under community supervision. ICE's Online Detainee Locator System is a current-location tool, not a release archive. A failed ICE search can reflect spelling, recent processing, transfer, protected status, or system coverage. Neither result proves what happened in the Watonwan jail without a matching movement record.
Watonwan County Jail Releases
The Watonwan County Jail is the only local detention facility confirmed by the official-source review. It is a county-operated secure coed 90-day lockup, not a state prison. The March 2026 Minnesota DOC inspection lists approved capacity at twenty and operational capacity at sixteen. Its authority runs through March 31, 2028. Those are facility facts, not counts of released people.
Community departures, transfers, and commitments can all remove a name from the current roster. The jail release or movement record is the lead source. Minnesota VINE can corroborate a county-jail event, and the court can show the order behind it. If the person moved into state corrections, then the Minnesota DOC search becomes relevant. The facility page lists the jail contact and the exact record route.
The inspection also records a limited rural juvenile hold exception. That operational rule does not create a release-list window, and juvenile data may be restricted. For an adult custody event, the public search still begins with the current Watonwan roster and then moves to the jail record, VINE event, court action, probation office, or documented receiving custodian.
